Many companies may ask, how can we have a safer workplace? How can we reduce the accidents in the workplace? These questions and others like it are continually at the forefront of the minds of employers and businesses. There may be many answers but one possibility and the answer I would like to focus on is a drug and alcohol free workplace. Drugs and alcohol inhibit and restrict the abilities of a person. They put a person and those around him in danger, especially when working with heavy equipment, machinery, or driving. It is unacceptable to allow these practices to take place in the workplace. Besides the obvious safety hazards, there is a decline in productivity and a loss of money and resources. So what are the options as far as changing the safety and productivity in the workplace. There are a couple of options:
- Develop and Execute a Drug and Alcohol Testing Company Program and Policy.
- Provide counseling and seminars to offenders and employees about living a drug and alcohol free life.
- Offer incentives for increase in productivity and time efficiency.
- Participate in supervisory training to know the signs of a possible offender.
These are just a couple of options. As an employer you can use your creativity and resources to develop other ideas on how to keep your workplace drug and alcohol free. This will drive productivity and customer satisfaction to new levels.
